The European Union could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unjustified” visa bans issued by the US against five European individuals working on combating digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe including the French president accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans were placed on figures that were at the heart of campaigns to enact laws regulating American tech companies.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to suppress American viewpoints they oppose,” stated the US secretary of state in a social media post. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
