Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
